Bình Thạnh is the hinge between the old centre and the eastern industrial belt: District 1 on one side, the Sài Gòn bridge to Thảo Điền and Thủ Đức on the other, and Vietnam’s tallest building — Landmark 81 — in the middle. Since 1 July 2025 the old district is four wards: Gia Định (the Bà Chiểu market and Lê Quang Định old town, taking the historic name of the province), Bình Thạnh (the Điện Biên Phủ / Xô Viết Nghệ Tĩnh core), Thạnh Mỹ Tây (Vinhomes Central Park, Landmark 81, Saigon Pearl, Tân Cảng) and Bình Lợi Trung (the Thanh Đa peninsula and Bình Quới).
Character
Two districts in one. The riverside strip along Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh is a vertical city — Vinhomes Central Park’s 14-hectare park, Landmark 81’s mall and observation deck, Saigon Pearl, The Manor, Vinmec hospital, the Tân Cảng metro station — with the city’s highest density of young professionals and Korean and Chinese managers. Behind it is old Bình Thạnh: Bà Chiểu market, the Lê Văn Duyệt tomb, Phạm Văn Đồng’s beer strip and tight alleys. The Thanh Đa peninsula at the northern end is an island of 1970s blocks, riverside cafés and the Bình Quới tourist village, countryside 20 minutes from Bến Thành.
Who lives here
Vietnamese professionals and start-up founders, Korean and Chinese managers who want a new tower with a hospital downstairs, European couples, and District 1 office workers priced out of the CBD. Families with school-age children usually cross the bridge to Thảo Điền, ten minutes away.

Bình Thạnh is the best-connected address for someone who splits time between a District 1 office and plants in both directions: Route 13 runs straight to VSIP I and Sóng Thần, Võ Nguyên Giáp to the Hi-Tech Park and Amata, Phạm Văn Đồng to the airport in 20 minutes, and Tân Cảng station is 3 minutes from Central Park. Risks
- Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh floods in heavy rain despite the pumping station — the towers are dry but the road to District 1 can close for an hour; Điện Biên Phủ, Xô Viết Nghệ Tĩnh and Ung Văn Khiêm also pond. Thanh Đa is low and tidal.
- Traffic hotspots: the Sài Gòn bridge and Hàng Xanh junction at 07:00–09:00 and 16:30–19:00; Route 13 at Bình Triệu with trucks to Bình Dương.
- Thanh Đa’s old blocks are slated for redevelopment; avoid long leases there.
